Pay More For Gas..........

Two days ago, the price of petrol was without any prelude or signs .... the usual sudden waves of our government implementations that comes like a silent tsunami......was raised from RM 1.92 to RM 2.70. Every Malaysian now has to fork out more of their already tight budget due to rising food prices to pay an arm and a leg for their gas.

The government said that they will help the poor by giving rebates of RM625 per year for cars below 2,000 cc. That is RM 52.08 per month.
But how much does it helps.......Do I consider myself poor because I own a 1,000 cc car..? And would the rebates give much consolations to the poor...? Just check this calculations here......

Rebate/ year..................................Rm 625
Rebate/month...............................Rm 52.08

Your one month usage in the past......Rm 128.2 (66.8 lit pumped)
Your one month average NEW price..Rm 180.28 (66.8 lit pumped)
Difference.....................Rm 52.08

1 month different.................Rm 52.08
1 month rebate.................... Rm 52.08
1 month you spend extra (Rm)..0

1 year...............................Rm 624.96
1 year rebate....................Rm 625
1 year you spend extra (Rm).. -0.04

So if your average consumption of fuel is more than Rm 128.2 per month, you will be paying more with the rebate or Rm 625 per year. And this calculation only works for those driving vehicles below 2.000 cc like me.

Those paying less are these gas producing countries..........

sweetjasmine,
We can't seem to do anything. Although we can use public transport, the public transport system here is not even reliable. Very shcoking news indeed...

Kok said...

Oh yea, actually, we should be more worried that crime rates would increase following this increase in fuel price...

bokjae - Come and try to cycle on the roads in Penang...it will be sending yrself to Hell...you can just do that in the park.
We will have to cope with all these in time to come.

buzzing j - okay...lets cheer ourselves up first...nothing is so bad as the homeless earthquake victims of Sichuan province and those who lost their love ones in the recent cyclone in Myanmar....Just stay happy and live for today...Cheers.

tammy - Canada is not so bad I heard..have so many benefits. No need to own a car 'coz public transport is good enough...not like here, you will always miss yr bus whch are so unreliable.

Sweet Jasmine said...

Kok - yes, that is the worrying trend of the fallout in rising fuel prices...everything will be more expensive and people will resort to crimes for the easy way out. Hope the govt will make some changes to rectify this problem...

Rising food and oil prices are leaving many people gasping for breath..... It's a global problem and it's not going to be solved very soon. Have to take it in our stride. sigh...

Thanks for your prayers for my son’s recovery. He’s home from the hospital. We are relieved to know the cause of his abdominal pains and that it is not life-threatening.

Happy weekend!

well, in my other blog (http://lifeballade.blogspot.com) had mentioned about it. this will only make the richer become richer, the poor become poorer, that's all..... those that suffer are people sandwich in between.

Hi Jasmine, blame the oil companies and the financial markets and the respective governments...
they all have very good accountants...and their excuses of why the price has to go up can be a tear jerker.
My Lincoln is 4700cc, yam sengs 78 litres full tank, and one filling can be breathtaking...about your money Rgt 300 plus.
So I fill when 1/4 tank, doesn't hurt so much. But only use the car send and fetch my wife...
You stay easy, Lee.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for visiting. Sorry I took so long to come over here. Have been in a holiday mood lately.

Hey, everyone is making noise about the price increase but come to think of it, the global price is so much higher and government's further subsidize would serve only as a walking stick, reducing our ability to compete in the global market.

There's only one thing the gov. should do quickly: restructure the whole public transport system.

Hi Sweet Jasmine,

Will post my thoughts on the oil increase next week.

In the mean time, love what you have posted.

My thoughts is this..the government asked us to 'changed our life style'.

How about them? Are the ministers themselves pay from their own pockets..petrol (government car), electricity (government house)? If not, maybe they should have a pay cut or lower allowance allocation.

u.lee - Hi, Lee...now the situation is global and we are not sure who to point our fingers at...just hope it will be stabilise at one level...or else you have to sell off your Lincoln too..ha.ha. Have a nice day.

jo-n - Hi, Jon...glad to see you over here....better late than never.
Yeah..you are right..instead of subsidizing our fuel our govt. should use that money to revamp the transport system by having more accesible transport for all citizens so as to cut down the use of private cars.

nightwing - thks for being here...

Its is pretty easy for them to say..change lifestyle...this is not only about lifestyle...it involves livelihood... putting food on the table...paying utilities bills...not to mention those who hardly earns enough to pay for roof over their heads. Just see who suffer the most in such kind of situation...the poor of course...the poor does not ever have a lifestyle....or do they..?
