Weekend Snapshot # 15...Dinner @ Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant

Last Saturday after checking into Shangri-la Kuala Lumpur, my family and I walk over to Concorde Hotel on the other side of the road to have a great feast with other relatives in Xin Cuisine Restaurant to celebrate the wedding of my sis-in-law's son Liam's marriage with his bride, Aur from Bangkok. It is the best chinese dinner I ever had in ages.

Lobster salad with fresh fruit and two varieties of appetizer...yummy!

My portion of very delicious braised shark fin soup with plenty of crabmeat and crab roe.....

Fragrant crispy duck Sze Chuan style....even taste better than the usual Szechuan crispy chicken....

The smooth and tender flesh of steamed pomfret with Imperial soya sauce.....

Braised mixed vege in beancurd skin.......the veges were sweet and the beancurd skin were nicely braised til soft....

Huge crispy prawn fritters tossed in Togarashi sauce.....

Braised Sea Cucumber with black mushroom, fish maw, and brocolli...

Double-boiled gingko nut, white fungus in Coconut.....a very refreshing and warm dessert with the sweet and fragrant taste of coconut....

The two variety bun with lotus and red bean paste fillings....

I miss a shot of the wok fried rice with scallop and crabmeat that was served before the dessert which makes it a ten course dinner feast making me a few hundred grams heavier and yet craving for more of the nice dessert and fruity red wine........

Will Still Be MIA...And So So Tired...

I have a very tiring day today again. Just for 3 days in a stretch have been like a watchdog overseeing my condo renovation. After a day of public hoilday where they are not allow to do any work, the delivery men came with a washing machine which they said will not go through the back washing bay door nearly giving me a heart attack thinking of the headache of breaking down the steel framed door. In the end after much anxiety it could go through after finding it as the fault of the careless man who could not even give a correct measurement.

The circuit board had a few explosion today with some exploded bulbs after the electrician had finish fixing all the lightings giving me another shock of my life. Had me running around calling for the person in charge for help and this so call electrical engineer ask me to pay him rm 120 to fix it saying it was a sensitive smart home system. He give me some lectures on how knowlegeble he was on the subject..blah..blah. After paying him the big sum and when he was few hours gone, there was another explosion in the circuit board. So there will be another long day again and I had to to rush back hometown and to the big city for another important wedding dinner before I could be back here again.

Will be back here ASAP in 4 to 5 days time.....

Happy Mooncake Festival.....

As tomorrow is mid autumn festival or mooncake festival for the Chinese I had yet to make any mooncake jelly which I usually do every year. Due to my condo renovation here and rushing round town buying lightings and furnishing keeps me away from the kitchen most of the time. But I still do have some mooncakes given by friends and relatives to have a bite in. These days they come pack in beautiful boxes which could be recycle for other uses........

These are given by MIL .She never fail to buy us a box every year eventhough she is old and frail......

These were bought buy Janet .............

These sugar free ones are from Taiwan at rm6+ per small piece comes in heart shaped boxes.

A lotus paste mooncake with nuts and salted egg yolk....

These cute and tiny ones were given by niece Jocelyn. The fillings are red bean paste with melon seeds.

This expensive jelly mooncake with birdnest was bought by son H at rm 16.90 per piece for his dear mummy. I reprimand him that he should have ask me to make one instead of spending his pocket money on such an expensive item. But anyway it is the thoughts that counts and I am no where in my circumstances to make any this year. See my last year 's creation here.

What's In my Handbag..? The Handbag Meme.

Here is a handbag meme I got from eastcoastlife. Looks like I have to let the world see what I usually carry in my handbag.

Here are the rules.

Find a safe quiet place free of significant others, nosey meme makers, priests, nuns, all things religious and men in general. (If you're a guy just reverse this process to male and tell us about your wallet, tool box, briefcase or metro sexual accessory.)

1. Dump the contents of your handbag in a pile

2. Take a photo of your handbag and the contents

3. Be brave and 'splain to your fellow bloggers what lurks inside the handbag.

4. Tag others who might want to embarrass themselves

5. Answer these questions:

Describe the contents of your handbag.

What's the most important thing in your handbag?

What's the most embarrassing thing in your handbag?

What's the smallest thing in your handbag?

Is there anything illegal in your handbag?

This meme was started by Mimi, Queen of Memes who thinks up brilliant memes. Here are the answers to the questions.....
What's the most important thing in your handbag?

My handphone. I like to carry it around just in case I need to call someone in case I need help.

What's the most embarrassing thing in your handbag?

Nothing to cause any embarassment.

What's the smallest thing in your handbag?

The lipstick .

Is there anything illegal in your handbag?

No. Would just hide it safely somewhere if I had one.

Describe the contents of your handbag.

From the contents seen above, I have some pens and pencils, eraser...a note book ....tissues...handphone...my pinky leather purse...camera...a small compact powder...hair clip...lipstick...comb...and a packet of biscuit.

Now is my turn to tag my buddies here to see what they carry inside their purse or wallet....

Baked Seabass In Lemony Sauce....

I have not been cooking as well as sharing any nice homecook food over here for quite some time already. So this delicious baked fish cook up by son H for yesterday dinner gives me an opportunity to share it with my readers.

Yesterday, mother and son had some quality time together shopping in Jusco, when this full of surprise son wanted to buy a seabass while I was looking at the nice pinky salmon. At first I refuse to buy it as the staff there refuse to scale and remove the internal organs when requested as what I used to get it done when bought from the wet market. Later I relented when son insisted on cooking it for dinner. So here I play cameraman again while watching my favourite drama on TV while son H cook dinner.

The whole seabass (siakap) after scaling and cleanup.....cheap, cost only rm 7 ++

Son H caramelizing sliced big onions with bacon, sugar and lemon juice for stuffing...........

My little chef in action.................

Mixture of lemon zest, sea salt, and pinches of saffron which I bought from Bali. (this is only 1/3 of the mixture left as I was busy with my drama watching...)

The lemon mixture being rub into the slits of the seabass after placing it on a sheet of aluminuim foil brushed with butter.......

The caramelized onions ready for stuffing..........

Son H stuffing the onions into the fish torso..........

Squeezing lemon juice over the fish...............

Placing sliced lemons inside fish..............

Underneath and on top of fish...............

Drizzling in a little olive oil with a dollop of butter on top of fish....

In goes the wrapped fish into a preheated oven of 180 degree Celcius for 20 to 25 minutes........

Out comes the piping hot lemony fish after 25 mins........

His Ko Ko (elder brother) came back just in time from a stressful day at work to gobble up a quarter of the fish ( not bad for an enemy of fish with bones) and giving the thumbs up when ask to give his verdict.....Thank you son H, for another wonderful dish...!

Weekend Snapshot # 13...My Merdeka Night.

Merdeka or Independence day used to be a fun day where you get to have holidays from work and get together with friends and family to celebrate. This year or rather these few years the moods and spirit of this special day seems to loose its vigour due to hardtimes and economic downturn and political issues in this multi racial country of ours. Anyway life is too short to dwelt on our shortcomings. I had my share of going out to celebrate in my own way not just for my country's Independence but my own.....here are some shots I took of my night out on the eve of Merdeka......

8.30 pm - A treat to dinner at Dragon-i Queensbay by Janet.....

Yummy fried rice........

My plate of fried vegetarian La Mian (noddles)

Kung Po or Stir-fried chicken in dried chillies and cashew nuts........

Sweet steamed buns with egg yolk fillings....(busy eating and forgot to shoot the oozing melt in the mouth egg yolk inside)

9.30 pm - treated to a nice movie (see my older post) by son H. Having a good time for 126 mins inside the cinema of QB's GSC, oblivious to the shouts of Merdeka somewhere in my homeland.......

A bad shot of the lit up Penang Bridge from my 7th storey car park....

The few fireworks going up to mark Independence Day at Queensbay after midnight........

Another better shot from inside my car..............

The heavy traffic kept us crawling on the road for a full one hour....
