Merdeka or Independence day used to be a fun day where you get to have holidays from work and get together with friends and family to celebrate. This year or rather these few years the moods and spirit of this special day seems to loose its vigour due to hardtimes and economic downturn and political issues in this multi racial country of ours. Anyway life is too short to dwelt on our shortcomings. I had my share of going out to celebrate in my own way not just for my country's Independence but my own.....here are some shots I took of my night out on the eve of Merdeka......
8.30 pm - A treat to dinner at Dragon-i Queensbay by Janet.....
Yummy fried rice........
My plate of fried vegetarian La Mian (noddles)
Kung Po or Stir-fried chicken in dried chillies and cashew nuts........
Sweet steamed buns with egg yolk fillings....(busy eating and forgot to shoot the oozing melt in the mouth egg yolk inside)
A bad shot of the lit up Penang Bridge from my 7th storey car park....

9.30 pm - treated to a nice movie (see my older post) by son H. Having a good time for 126 mins inside the cinema of QB's GSC, oblivious to the shouts of Merdeka somewhere in my homeland.......

Happy Merdeka day to you too!
Hi Jasmine, wow! The food looks delicious.
I already celebrated Merdeka day, when I was a schoolboy and was at the stadium watching the Union Jack come down, Malaya's new flag going up.
And hearing Negara Ku for the first time.
I and 40,000 people joined Tunku crying out, 'Merdeka' 7 times.
Yes, Merdeka day will always have a special meaning for me. I was there.
Have a great week, Jasmine, Lee.
