Seafood @ Gee Seng In Bukit Tambun...

After reading so much about the fresh seafood in Bukit Tambun, I had my first visit to this much talk about place recently. I chose Gee Seng because it has got quite a good number of reviews from food bloggers.....cheap, fast service and fresh and nice seafood........

When we arrived there late in the evening at around 8.30 pm, the place was still pack with people and there were no parking space and we had to park further down the narrow lane at one of the wooden houses' empty lot......these residents could also make some money by collecting rm1 for each car.....

We were lucky to find an empty table among the crowd.....and after we ordered...the food were at our tables in less than 15 mins.....very fast indeed....

Our stir fry vegetables.................

Assam (tamarind) Prawns....very nice and fresh with the tangy tastes of tamarind.

Balitung.....in a sweet and not too spicy sauce with the flavors of garlic and peanuts.......very tasty.

A type of clams.........cooked in spicy bean paste sauce....delicious but the clams are a bit too small................

Fresh scallops......cooked with ginger, garlic and small chillis....good but the scallop also bit too small to get a nice bite.............

Kam Heong mud crabs .....not very big in size but tastes nice and fresh.....

When we asked for a little hammer to crack some of the hard shells.....they gave us this piece of hard wood......a very good and cost saving 'hammer'.

Beside these seafood ....you must not miss this delicious satay that you can order from a stall near the restaurant......they do not come with any satay sauce and it is good to eat on its own......the meat are very juicy and tender with a tinge of sweetness.......we like it so much that we "ta pau" some more home......

Gee Seng Seafood Restaurant is located at:

860 Bagan Bukit Tambun

Penang.

Hi Jasmine, wow! Love the dishes you ordered. And if there's one dish I have really missed its balitung.
Gosh! I have not eaten that decades!
Should as and when we return to Singapore and Malaysia, we will go exploring on our own and go eat what we want.
Our last trip friends and relatives kept taking us to restaurants even though we wanted to eat at smaller stalls. Thet ordered foods that we can get here in Toronto.
A relative brought us to Penang, they brought along a lady friend, and she sure spoilt our trip to Penang.
10 years never been back to Penang and I wanted to go eat at MacAlister road, Gurney drive, Penang road...all the places I used to go myself old days, and this lady kept saying the food no good and took us to places I don't even know, and on top of that, she ordered dishes I don't even eat...duck noodle whatever...as well dishes we not familiar, not what we wanted to eat...did not even get to eat char kueh teow.
When we returned home, I swore to my wife, the next time we return, no relatives, no friends...we take a taxi and explore what we want.
I wanted to eat balitung last trip, that lady said "no good", ordered something else and my wife and I didn't even enjoy let alone finish it.
Can you imagine going to Penang and not having the chance to eat oh chien, poh pia, bailutung, rojak, pasembur...that lady said, "bad cholesterol, etc"!!! Holy Smoke!
She sure spoilt our trip back. But never again. Lee.

Mum & dad missed out on Bukit Tambun on their recent trip to Penang. They left for KL in the morning and it was too early to have lunch at Bukit Tambun. But, they did enjoy good food at Ipoh instead. Dad worked in Penang for about a year and loves Bukit Tambun food. Kess.
